Damn Dirty

When you go to a Great Apes show, you leave happy, hungry and sweaty. That's what the primal energy of dance music moving through your body will do to you, and that's exactly what the band wanted to capture on their debut extended EP. Instead of spending months holed up in the studio, they decided to record their album live-in one afternoon- in front of an audience of fans, friends and family, where the power and energy of their performance would take center stage. Enlisting the help of Grammy-nominated engineer/producer Hiroyuki Sanada, The Great Apes not only recorded seven amazing funk jams, but also all of the sing-alongs, clap-alongs, dance-alongs, scream-alongs and sweat-alongs. They got the joy of performance. They got the energy of the band channeled through lead singer J-Trom's soulful vocals and outrageous dancing. And they got the energy of the audience channeled back through to the band. What do you get when you listen? You get a moment in time, a slice of New York City energy, an inexplicable urge to move your body, the essence of sweat- and one hell of a damn dirty debut.
